Sports, cold weather, and essential oils

3975269-hiver-landscape-winter-sceneYou like to do outdoor sports, but you worry a little about how your muscles will react to the cold weather ?

Muscles can stiffen in cold weather, causing aches and pain during the activity, and the lingering muscle pain, due to failure to warm up before an activity.

You can easily make this balm to apply to the muscles before exercice. It will help to avoid these problems.

Fill a small container with about 15 ml of a vegetable oil, for example olive, argan, sesame, apricot kernel… and mix with :

-20 drops of essential oil of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans)

-20 drops of essential oil of Balsam of copaiba (Copaifera officinalis)

-20 drops of essential oil of Rosemary camphor (Rosmarinus officinalis Ct camphor)

Mix well.  Massage the oil into the muscles a 1/2 hour before the activity. Do not massage the whole body, only the areas that will be worked the most, (such as calves and thighs prior to running or jogging).

You can also use this balm as an after sport massage. Apply after a shower on painful muscles. This will also prevent a good part of the post-activity pains.

This should not be used for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children less than 15 years of age.

You will find many recipes for sportsmen and others in my book « Sport and Essential Oils », to be published this week . However, it is available now for order on this site or on but it is in French !

Special thanks to my English teacher, Catherine Roth, for her great help for the translations on this blog !
